Charminar: With COVID-19 (Coronavirus) slowly spreading in the State, the GHMC has not only begun spreading awareness on safety precautions amongst the denizens, it has also decided to set up an observation medication facility to accommodate the patients with symptoms of infection.

Under GHMC Charminar Zone, meetings are being conducted in every circle in presence of the area corporators along with officials of health and sanitation wings of the corporation and police officials regarding the precautionary measures to be taken to control the spread of virus.

According to GHMC Deputy Commissioner K Alivelu Mangathayaru (Santoshnagar), the exercise was being taken up in active coordination with health & sanitation wing and engineering wing under GHMC and area police officers etc. "GHMC has deputed officers and engineers in each ward of the GHMC circle and also deputed an officer who would supervise the officers and report to the top officials from time to time. Officers are instructed to educate the general public with SH Groups to reach the netizens in social media and take all necessary steps in the regard," she added.

The deputed officers are instructed to conduct 24-hour surveillance in their areas and also educate general public not to gather and take all precautionary measure.

Speaking to The Hans India Riyasathnagar division Corporator Mirza Saleem Baig said that a committee was formed by including members from police department, the health & sanitation wing and corporators. "This committee would undertake the steps as part of precautionary measures and also will be setting up observation centers with all medical facilities to accommodate the patients in each constituency, in case of emergency," he added. He said that since to set up the observation centers in residential areas would pose hazard to general public and as even the residents would object, these centres would be set up on the outskirts. For coming up with such kind of centers in Chandrayangutta constituency, he suggested some of the buildings suitable for the purpose.

"As the government passed orders to shut educational institutions till March 31, I suggested 3 colleges such as Arora Engineering College, Islamia Engineering College, Moghal Engineering College. These colleges are located away from residential colonies and would suit the purpose", said Saleem Baig. Saleem Baig said that anyone who returned from abroad and those with suspected symptoms of virus should inform the committee and the members would rush to the person and keep in observation center for around 14 days with all medication facilities.
