The Rachakonda Cybercrime police on Wednesday arrested a 29-year-old man for spreading false news on coronavirus. The man was identified as Sadiq Basha, an electrician and is a native of Amaravatinagar in Adoni of Kurnool district.

The police said that Sadiq Basha received two voice messages of Whatsapp from an unknown number on his mobile phone on Sunday. The voice messages on coronavirus are found to be intended to create panic. Without checking the veracity of messages, Basha forwarded them to his friends, family members and other contacts through Whatsapp.

The police who came across the messages registered tracked location of Sadiq Basha and arrested him. A case under sections of the National Disaster Management Act was registered against him.

Later, the police advised the citizens not to forward the messages which create panic among people and without checking the veracity of the message that might create disturbances.
