Hyderabad: After a gap of two and a half years, the teaching faculty at NIMS are set to get promotions.

The NIMS administration decided to take up assessment promotions for the staff from March 11. Nearly 25 to 30 doctors are will get benefit from this exercise. Under assessment promotions, Assistant Professors with four years experience will be considered for Associate Professor rank and Associate Professors with four years experience will be promoted to Additional Professor rank.

Assessment promotions will be done for faculty in various departments including Anesthesia, Radiology, Urology, Surgical Gastroenterology to name a few.

Unlike in the State medical colleges where there is a three-tier system (Assistant prof., Associate Prof. and Professor), while NIMS has a four-tier system (Assistant Prof, Associate Prof, Additional Prof. and Professor).

A committee comprising external expert, NIMS dean among others would look into applications of eligible candidates, their research and publications and remarks if any and approve the list.

Meanwhile, the Faculty Association has urged the NIMS administration to also take up the recruitment of Professors, which is done through the direct notification.

Professors with 12 years of experience in super-specialities and 14 years of experience in broad-specialities are allowed to apply (from outside as well as Additional Professors working in NIMS with suitable experience).

More than 15 Professors posts are to be filled with some of them falling vacant due to the retirement of seniors, a senior doctor said. Assessment promotions and direct recruitments have to be done on a regular basis without any delay, he added.
