Hyderabad: Change of Pradesh Congress Committee president may not be taken up until the All India Congress Committee is reshuffled which is also kept on backburner.

Senior State unit leaders in the know about the happenings in the AICC headquarters, have said that the Telangana PCC president issue may be taken up only after the reshuffle of the AICC.

The leaders said that the PCC revamp may not be done in this month as changes are expected in the national leadership. They said that a section of the party is demanding reinstallation of Rahul Gandhi as president of the party.

If the national leadership is in favour of making Rahul as president of the party again, the AICC reshuffle may be delayed inordinately. The question of the national leadership may be decided only after the Budget session of Parliament.

A senior Congress leader said that the AICC leaders are quite serious about giving a better position to PCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy at the national level. He may be made general secretary or member of the Working Committee.

This would take place only after the reshuffle of the AICC executive. Though the apex body of the Congress has to be revamped, after Sonia Gandhi took over the reins of the party, so far it was not initiated.

The Telangana PCC president could be changed only after Uttam is provided with a good position in the AICC executive, PCC senior leaders averred.

At the same time the AICC was not so keen on changing the PCC of the state as there would no important elections in the state in the next four years.

Uttam Kumar Reddy assumed the office of PCC president in 2015 March and he would complete five years in the office by next March. Party leaders said that Uttam may complete five years in PCC president's position if the current political situation in the party is any indication.

Though few senior leaders of Telangana Congress have been pressing the AICC leaders to change the PCC president, the national leaders are not in a mood to yield to their requests.

On the other hand, Uttam has begun efforts to rejuvenate the party from the grassroot level. He has taken up postmortem of the party's debacle in the municipal elections, showing his confidence on continuing as the president of PCC.

In internal discussions also he has been exuding confidence about his continuation. Few leaders of the party have been supporting his continuation as the PCC president.
