Karimnagar: Protestors death made RTC employees to intensify strike

Karimnagar: The death of two of their colleagues – driver Srinivas Reddy of Khammam district and conductor Surender Goud of Hyderabad - made the RTC employees to determine to intensify their strike further with the support from various sections and political parties to exert pressure on the State government for fulfilment of their justifiable demands in the undivided Karimnagar district.

On Monday, the RTC employees before taking up various activities of protests observed two minutes silence and paid rich tributes to their colleagues, who died after the strike began, in Karimnagar.

The women RTC employees along with their children participated in Vanta-Varpu programme (mass cooking and feeding) at all bus depots across the undivided Karimnagar district.

Speaking on the occasion, leaders of various RTC unions reminded that the RTC employees had actively participated in Sakala Janula Samme for more than 40 days during the separate Telangana movement. By seeing the continuous efforts put in by RTC employees, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao appreciated the employees and promised them that he will merge the corporation into the government for providing job security to them.

But now, he deviated from his promises and denying that he never gave such a promise, they criticised. CM KCR is trying to privatise the RTC and as per his decision he is taking stubborn steps at the cost of RTC employees lives. KCR is responsible for the death of Srinivas Reddy of Khammam and Surendar Goud of Hyderabad, they pointed out.

The leaders said the common people are hoping that the TRS government must take a wise decision and solve the issues of RTC employees so that they will call off their strike. Otherwise, the government has to face severe consequences further in the coming up days, as the RTC employees may intensify their strike if they lose more of its employees, they observed.

Meanwhile, the representatives of the several peoples' organisations had questioned the government why it had extended Dasara holidays to educational institutions when it boasted of running bus services full pledged.

Speaking to The Hans India, a PG college lecturer G Sreedhar said that with the extension of holidays, students will lose valuable time of their education and interest on studies sitting in houses for more than 20 days.
