Hyderabad: Karnataka government has released water from Narayanpur reservoir across Krishna river to Telangana State so that the TS could meet drinking water needs.

Authorities stated that 3, 000 cusecs water was released from Almatti dam reached Narayanpur dam in Karnataka at 12 noon on Sunday. After attaining sufficient level in Narayanpur, water will be released to Jurala through spillways.

However, it is not clear when Narayanpur dam authorities will start this process.

Chief Engineer, Irrigation, Mahbubnagar district is continuously in touch with the Narayanpur dam authorities, according to Irrigation Department officials.

The government of Karnataka was requested to release water from Narayanpur reservoir across Krishna River to Telangana for meeting drinking water needs of people of Mahabubnagar district.

In view of the water levels steeply coming down in the reservoirs of Mahbubnagar district, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had requested his Karnataka counterpart HD Kumaraswamy for release of water and accordingly steps were taken by Karnataka authorities.
