Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has instructed officials to formulate a new urban policy focused on planned development with no room for corruption.

The CM also wanted a rural policy and a revenue policy to be put in place to strike a development balance in rural regions with urban areas.

The Chief Minister said that the new urban policy should yield inputs for the new municipal laws for corporations, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).

Reviewing the preparations for the new urban policy at a high-level meeting at Pragati Bhavan on Sunday, the CM hoped that new laws would eliminate corruption at all levels and leaving no room for any illegal and unauthorised constructions.

The CM said that the responsibility to ensure good governance in tune with the new municipal laws would be vested with the officials and elected representatives.

The laws will also incorporate stringent punishments against those who resort to dereliction of the duties, the CM stressed.

Suggesting the officials to come out with draft proposals on these laws in next couple of days, the CM said that Legislative Assembly will be called for a brief session to discuss and pass the new Acts.

PR conclaves

The CM wanted newly elected Sarpanches, MPTCs, ZPTCs, MPPs and ZP Chairpersons to actively involve in progress and development of the villages.

He said it was decided to hold Panchayat Raj conclaves all over the State to create awareness on the new Panchayat Raj Act and the measures taken by the government for the development of the villages.

Sarpanches, MPTCs, ZPTCs, MPPs, ZP Chairpersons, Panchayat Secretaries, MPDOs and CEOs will be invited for these conclaves. It was decided to spend Rs 7,000 crore annually and Rs 35,000 crore in five years on development of villages, he said.

After the conclaves, 100 Flying Squads comprising officials would be formed to undertake surprise inspection of the villages.

Immediate action will be taken against those who indulge in dereliction of duties and the misuse of funds. The CM wanted a visible change in the village for better in the next three months.
