Mahbubnagar: The Palamuru region had once again witnessed spike in Covid-19 positive cases after a silence of more than 40 days. So far, three cases, one in Narayanpet and two in Nagarkurnool districts - have surfaced within four to five days after the government announced relaxation during lockdown.
In fact, Nagarkurnool and Narayanpet districts were first to obtain green zone tag with no positive cases. Jogulamba Gadwal and Mahbubnagar were tagged orange and red zones respectively. Wanaparthy is the only district in this region that has not yet witnessed a single positive case.
Going into details, three persons, who were tested positive, include one each from Ramachandrapuram village of Chharakonda mandal and Kondareddipally village in Vangoor mandal in Nagarkurnool district, and the third case is a three-month-old baby from Jaklair village of Makthal mandal in Narayanpet district.
There are different versions about the infant tested positive. Some said that the baby might have infected from his father, mastri from Jeklair village who recently returned from Bidar in Karnataka to his native place. While others observed that they baby might have got infected with the virus after a cradle ceremony held recently, where more than 60 persons, including villagers and relatives, participated.
After two positive cases emerged in Nagarkurnool district, District Collector E Sridhar held a meeting with panchayat raj, health and revenue officials of district and mandals and directed them to take immediate precautionary measures to ensure the virus does not spread further to others in the district.
It is learned that the health officials have identified 44 primary contacts and 80 secondary contacts of the positive case in Ramchandrapuram and they were all put under home quarantine. Similarly, in Kondareddypally case 14 persons were identified as primary contacts and were under quarantine.
In the case of the 3-month-old baby, the officials have identified 53 primary contacts and put all of them under house quarantine.
After a rise in corona positive cases after a gap of 40 days, health experts urged public to venture out only if it is emergency and should keep themselves indoors as much as possible.
Overall, with these new cases emerged the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district has witnessed total 61 cases. Of this, two were died and 57 were recovered. Gadwal had recorded 45 cases with two deaths and others recovered; and Mahbubnagar recorded 11 cases with all of them recovered with zero cases even after 40 days. Currently Wanaparthy, Mahbubnagar and Gadwal under green zone, while Nagarkurnool and Narayanpet have slipped to orange zones.
