Mahbubnagar: Water released to farmlands from Maddikhan Lake
Devarkadra MLA Ala Venkateshwar Reddy released water to the farmlands of Maddikhan lake ayacut in Maddigattu village of Bhootpur mandal on Friday.
Mahbubnagar: Devarkadra MLA Ala Venkateshwar Reddy released water to the farmlands of Maddikhan lake ayacut in Maddigattu village of Bhootpur mandal on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said that people of the State were fortunate to have K Chandrasekhar Rao as their Chief Minister, who understood problems and issues of people of the State.
"In the last five years, the government had completed all earlier pending irrigation projects and provided water to 8 lakh acres under Bheema, Nettampad, Kalwakurthy, Jurala and Koilsagar projects. Now with the fast track construction of Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project, very soon the entire Palamuru district will become a green belt with every constituency getting irrigated with Krishna water. It is possible only through the efforts of KCR who had taken daring steps to uplift the farmers and provided them not just with Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima benefits, but also waived the crop loans," said the Devarkadra MLA.
Bhootpur MPP Kadire Shekar Reddy had earlier taken the initiative of digging up a sub canal from the KLIS project from Maganoor and filled the Maddikhan lake in Maddigattu village with the Krishna waters and with the completion of this project, the poor farmers under the Maddikhan lake having over an irrigation ayacut of 15,000 acres will now get the water.
Expressing his happiness, Kadire Shekar Reddy said, "I had a dream of making my village irrigate with the Krishna water. After formation of Telangana, I was convinced that I can do it and met with all the leaders in the government taking my proposal to fill the Maddikhan Lake with the Krishna waters. Though initially nobody took my idea seriously, with the support of local farmers in the village, I convinced the Devarkadra MLA and took the proposal to Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy and even met with the then irrigation Minister Harish Rao and could get funds worth Rs 103 crore for the linking canal from Maganoor to Maddikhan lake."
Overcoming all odds of land acquisition, which delayed the project for more than one year, the farmers of Maddigattu village are happy lot as they can now irrigate more than 15,000 acres of land.
"It is a dream come true for us. With the Maddikhan Lake brimming with Krishna water, our dreams have come true. Now we need not migrate to other cities for work as we already have lot of work available in our own village," said the villagers of Maddigattu village.
