Many in race for TPCC president post

Hyderabad: Notwithstanding denial by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary over the change in the leadership of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), lobbying for the post of TPCC chief is continuing.
Of late AICC secretary and senior leader of the State Congress V Hanumantha Rao has thrown his hat into the ring. He has demanded that the TPCC chief's post be given to a candidate belonging to Backward Classes instead of leader from Reddy community.
He said, "There is no other BC leader in the State who is qualified to be selected for the PCC president post than me. The posts of TPCC president and leader of the CLP were given to Reddy leaders during the previous Assembly."
Hanumantha Rao said that the posts should be given to a loyalist and he was the utmost loyalist of the party. He also said that he would hold a meeting of the loyalists of the Congress party in July and would discuss the issues of the party in it.
On the other hand, the leaders from the Scheduled Caste community are also eager to grab the post of TPCC president. They have been continuing their efforts through their channels in the high command.
Senior leaders hailing from SC community like C Damodara Raja Narasimha, and Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka have been trying to secure the TPCC president post. AICC secretary and leader from the SC community S A Sampath is also in the race.
Meanwhile, a section of the party has been arguing that there was no need to change the TPCC leadership and suggested that N Uttam Kumar Reddy remain in the post.
They said that since there are no elections to the Assembly or Lok Sabha in the next three years, there was no need to change the leadership. As the ordinary elections to the rural local bodies are over there would be no big election before the party.
The leaders argued that now it was time for the party to focus on strengthening the organisation and steps should be taken to build the party from the booth level.
They have been suggesting that the party should focus on the municipal elections to be held in next four or five months and strive to achieve success in them to protect the party.
