Warangal: By and large the people in Warangal East, Narsampet, Parkal and Wardhannapet constituencies want Warangal as their district headquarters, Warangal East MLA Nannapuneni Narender said.

Speaking to the media persons here on Monday, Narender emphasised the need for renaming Warangal Rural and Urban districts as Warangal and Hanamkonda so that the very concept of the creation of smaller districts will be fulfilled. "With an intention to provide administrative convenience, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao took up the reorganisation of smaller districts in 2016."

There would be spurt in the developmental activity in the region if Warangal East region is made district headquarters of the Warangal district, he said, referring to the upcoming Mega Textile Park and revival of Mamnoor airport.

The backward East constituency would get a huge fillip if it was made district headquarters, Narender said, appealing to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to have a relook at renaming and reorganising present Warangal Rural district.

Even though the grain market is said to be Asia's biggest market, the city lacks infrastructural development. With all the district offices located in Hanamkonda, people are witnessing difficulty, he said, emphasising the need for carving of Warangal and Hanamkonda districts. He said that there was no need for dividing Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) even after creating Warangal and Hanamkonda districts. Initially, the government carved out Warangal and Hanamkonda districts but due to some reasons the proposal was put off, he said.

Responding to a query, Narender said even though people in the past had objected to Warangal and Hanamkonda districts, there is a clear change in the mood of people. Now they want Warangal East as their district headquarters, he said.
