Medak: The much-awaited southwest monsoon is likely to set in in the State with the Met department forecasting heavy rain on June 21 and 22 at isolated places. According to the department bulletin, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely at many places across the Staste from June 21 to 24, as conditions are becoming favorable for further advance of the monsoon into some parts of Telangana.

The bulletin said under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over east-central and adjoining north-east Bay of Bengal, a low pressure area has formed over the north-east Bay and its neighbourhood. The low pressure area is expected to bring widespread rain.

Meanwhile, during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Thursday, severe heat wave conditions prevailed at isolated pockets in Medak district. Rain occurred at isolated places in the State, covering 25 per cent areas. Medak recorded 40.7 degrees Celsius as the day temperature, while Hakimpet had 37.4 and Dundigal 36 respectively. The highest maximum temperature of 42.4 degrees Celsius was registered in Khammam.
