The new gate of the Musi Project which was constructed in 2016 replacing the old one was collapsed on Saturday due to rust and consequently 5000 cusecs of water in the reservoir flowed downstream and water level in the reservoir decreased to 644.80 feet from full tank level 645 feet by the evening.

Ketepally ( Nalgonda): The new gate of the Musi Project which was constructed in 2016 replacing the old one was collapsed on Saturday due to rust and consequently 5000 cusecs of water in the reservoir flowed downstream and water level in the reservoir decreased to 644.80 feet from full tank level 645 feet by the evening.

The collapsed gate was one of the 30 gates that the reservoir has. On information , Minister for Energy G Jagadish Reddy rushed to the Musi Project located in Ketepally mandal in the district and enquired the officials concerned about the incident.

He instructed the project and irrigation officials to alert the people of low lying areas of the project to avoid any untoward incident and directed officials to address the issue at the earliest to save the water for future irrigation needs of project's right and left canals ayacut farmers.

It may be noted that the new crest gate of the Musi Project was built in 2016 and farmers alleged that one of the projects crest gate was collapsed due to officials negligence and expressing the fear that the reservoir would become empty if problem was not rectified on war footing. They said that the incident took place as the officials failed to lift the gate at right time.
