Nizamabad: Bharat Bandh, called by farmer unions and supported by various Opposition parties on Tuesday, was successful in the erstwhile Nizamabad district.

Public life was disrupted in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts as business establishments, banks, petrol bunks

and other shops remained closed all day, expressing solidarity to the farmers. Leaders of Employees, Teachers, Organised and Unorganised Labour Unions staged protests against the Central government.

Jukkal MLA Hanmanth Shinde along with farmers and others staged a dharna on national highway 161 in Madnur mandal of Jukkal constituency, Kamareddy district.

In Banswada and Yellareddy of Kamareddy district, protests, dharnas were held on the day.

Armoor MLA Jeevan Reddy participated along with the farmers at a dharna at Mamidipalli chowrasta in Armoor town. Vanta varpu programme was held at Narsingraopally crossroads in Nizamsagar mandal.

Leaders and activists of Congress, TRS, Left parties staged protests and dharnas in Nizamabad district. MLA Mohammed Shakeel Amer led a dharna at Bodhan and Narsapur in Nizamabad district and police arrested the MLA. Farmers and TRS activists staged a sit-in protest against the MLA's arrest, due to which vehicular traffic came to a standstill for several kilometres.­
