Hyderabad: Telangana government will not be increasing liquor shops number in its fresh liquor policy that will be announced in the next few weeks. Excise and Prohibition Minister V Srinivas Goud informed the Assembly that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had given clear instructions not to increase the number of shops.

Speaking in the discussion on Demands in Assembly on Wednesday, Srinivas Goud stated that they are cracking a whip on belt shops, hookah centres etc. He further stated that the government was mulling to make available the Neera drink, which is a sap extracted from the inflorescence of various species of toddy palms because of immense benefits with it.

NIN (National Institute of Nutrition) researchers also seconded the view that Neera drink was very beneficial. It is widely available in countries like Sri Lanka and Cambodia. Neera drink also benefit people suffering from cancer, diabetes, kidney and other chronic ailments, the minister said.
