Peddapalli: As part of Swachh Friday programme, District Collector A Sri Devasena inspected Haripuram village of Muttaram mandal on Friday and urged the people to keep their surroundings clean to prevent seasonal diseases.

Speaking on the occasion, the collector asked the people not to keep water stagnated in pits, drums and in open areas and to participate actively in Haritha Haram programme to convert their Haripuram village into Harithavanam.

She told that by keeping the water stagnant in pots, drums, vessels and in open areas, mosquitoes' population will increase and cause several dreadful diseases like malaria, filarial and dengue.

Last year, many people in Muttaram had suffered with dengue fever due to keeping their surroundings in unhygienic condition, which resulted in the increase of mosquito population,she warned.

By constructing soak pits in front of the houses, the villagers must ensure that water is not remained stagnant in front of their houses and in surroundings. In each village, five community soak pits will be constructed to harvest rainwater and it is the responsibility of the officials to complete the works as early as possible, she ordered.

Collector Devasena said that the villagers must participate in Haritha Haram programme and must plant saplings up to four kilometres distance on either side of the village to convert their village into Harithavanam. The villagers were also told to set up tree guards to protect the saplings along with preparing an action plan to provide water to the planted saplings.

Manthani RDO K Nagesh, DPO V Sudarshan, DPRO Sridhar, DMO Praveen, Sarpanch Sampath Rao, Srinivas, Ashok and other officials were present along with others.
