Hyderabad: Transport Minister V Prashanth Reddy on Sunday said that apart from government, people should also partner in the road safety initiatives.
The Minister was speaking at the 'Walk for Road Safety 2K Walk' organised at Necklace Road on Sunday. Prashanth Reddy said that the government can take many steps but it is the people who should also contribute.
People should have awareness on small issues like wearing helmet, seat belts, no drink and drive, not using mobile while driving, following signals while crossing the roads, etc., which would result in decreasing accidents to a larger extent, said the Minister.
The Transport Minister said that the government has taken few decisions in the Road Safety Council meeting to avoid accidents.
"If something happens to a person in an accident, entire family has to suffer. All and particularly, the youth should control their driving on the national highways and follow the directions on the roads.
Families have many hopes on the youth but by losing their self control and making few mistakes and making the entire family to suffer," said Prashanth Reddy.
He said that the government had directed the officials to have two patrolling vehicles within 50 km distance and keeping two ambulances at toll plazas.
