Alwal: Residents of Alwal circle have demanded a sewage treatment plant (STP) at any one of the lakes. There are three tanks – Peeda Cheruvu (Temple Alwal), Chinnarayuni Cheruvu (Macha Bolaram) and Kotha Cheruvu (Alwal). Sewage from nearby localities are entering these lakes. As a result, a strong stench is emanating from the lake, causing concern among local residents.

Locals said if GHMC plans for an STP at any one of the lakes it would be a great relief for residents over here. "Local residents said that the stench was unbearable, especially after dusk.

It is resulting in mosquito menace and the putrid smell emancipating from the lake is of serious concern and number children in the houses near the lake were falling sick", says K Abhijeet, a resident of Old Alwal.

"We have many time requested the GHMC of Alwal to install STP at Alwal lakes so that it would be a great relief to locality over here," said R Das, resident of Bolaram.

"Still now no permanent solution is taken to stop letting sewage into the lake or to diverted the sewage from the lake.

As now it is high time GHMC installed STP at one of the lakes at Alwal," according to Murali Krishna, Executive Committee member, Federation of New Bolarum Colonies (FNBC).
