Second phase Miyawaki beds ready for plantation at Oxidation Pond area of NTPC Ramagundam

Riding on its success of Phase-1 Miyawaki Plantation, NTPC-Ramagundam has launched phase-II Miyawaki Method Plantation on Saturday at its Oxidation Pond area covering 6044.5 sqmt area by planting around 10,684 plants of 61 varieties of species in the presence of P Raghuveer, IFS, VC&MD-TSFDCL (PCCF); MJ Akbar, IFS, CCF-Warangal and Sunil Kumar, CGM, NTPC-Ramagundam & Telangana.

Expressing his satisfaction on the growth of phase-I, P Raghuveer termed the initiative a 'model' for others to follow. He appreciated NTPC's efforts under CSR for social development and environment protection. Echoing similar view, MJ Akbar, who has been closely monitoring the progress of Phase-I, complimented NTPC management for its proactive initiative and added that the growth coupled with flowers and fruits in ten months is a boost for urban foresting. Sharing his view, Sunil Kumar thanked State Forest Development Corporation Limited (TSFDCL) and forest department for their support and reiterated NTPC's efforts in enriching environment. He also mentioned NTPC's continuous support for Telangana Ku Haritha Haram initiative.

After selection of the location based on soil quality, water availability and secured boundary wall, 24 sectors developed with each bed digging upto 0.60 mtrs depth followed by filling with various layers of rice husk, farmyard manure, cocopeat and Jeevamrutham.

PK Laad, GM (TS); AK Samaiyar (O&M); Prasenjit Pal, GM (Project); Mohan Reddy T, GM (FQA); SK Patel, GM (Civil Construction); DFO M Ravi Prasad; office bearers of unions and associations and senior officials from NTPC, forest department and TSFDCL planted saplings.

NTPC-Ramagundam/Telangana had launched Pilot Miyawaki Project on January 23 this year at its Oxidation Pond area covering over 1618 sqmt area by planting 3,350 trees with 53 varieties of species. Within 10 months, the pilot Miyawaki project developed into a dense forest with 100% survival and set an ideal example of urban foresting.
