Ramannapet (Yadadri-Bhongir): A farmer committed suicide on the rail tracks owing to increased burden of debts that he took for practicing agriculture. The incident took place at Ramannapet village in the district on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Mote Ganesh (31), also a ward member of Ramannapet gram panchayat.

According to sources, Ganesh was popular in the village and got elected as Ward member of Ramannapet gram panchayat. He has been growing cotton in his half acre land for livelihood for the last few years. However, he incurred losses due to poor yields and also his debts crossed Rs 10 lakh in the course of time.

Further, compounding his worries, Darmareddy canal was dug through his land. Ganesh, who wanted to clear all his debts through compensation giving by the government, was depressed with the delay in handing over the compensation and took his life on the rail tracks near a local degree college. He is survived by wife and a son.

Based on the complaint lodged by deceased man's wife, the railway police registered a case and took up the investigation.

Meanwhile, leaders of various political parties expressed their shock and condoled his death.
