Vikarabad: Following fresh and stronger lockdown measures announced by the State government, the administration has been scrambling to place the entire district under clampdown. The borders with neighbouring state Karnataka have been closed.
District Collector Pausumi Basu announced that the public transportation like state RTC services, SETWIN, Metro, taxis and auto-rikshaws were also not allowed to roam. "Only essential commodities like milk, vegetables, fruits will be made available and medical shops, government departments and other emergency services will function.
People who are under self-imposed quarantine should confine to homes, any body found on roads, action will be taken," she warned. The Collector also said that when people come out to buy essentials, they should maintain minimum three meters of distance. She asked private companies to pay salaries to the workers during this lock down period. The collector directed anganwadi workers to prepare a list of pregnant women who are scheduled to deliver in March and April.
The Collector, along with RDO Venugopala Rao, visited the district hospital at Tandur and enquired about the situation with superintendent Dr Mallikarjun. On the other hand, the 'Janata Curfew' continued for the Monday. But several people came on to the roads as usual. Police counseled and sent them back. They seized some vehicles from the people who defied the regulations.
MLA Dr M Anand visited the Quarantine Center in Vikarabad on Monday to inspect the facilities provided to those who are placed under observation. He also visited the Quarantine Ward at Rajivanagar Colony, the newly built facility at the Government Hospital. The ward is made ready for 30 patients and all arrangements have been made. He said that everyone should use masks and avoid coming out of their homes. Tension gripped the Gangyada village of Nawabpet mandal on Monday when 14 people from the same village returned from a pilgrimage. They were not allowed into the village. Villagers demanded all the 14 should undergo medical tests before entering the village. After a spell of altercation, police and medical staff reached the spot and asked the 14 pilgrims to stay away from the village.
