Hyderabad: A local reporter of Mallapur area under Balapur police station limits attempted suicide by consuming petrol alleging that he was been insulted by the police on Monday.

Balapur police have denied the allegation saying that the journalist Srinivas was blackmailing police when he called for an enquiry of an assault case, which was registered on Sunday. Srinivas said to be undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Balapur area.

Srinivas in a video before attempting suicide by consuming petrol, alleged that he was called by the Balapur police over phone, without mentioning the issue.

When he went to police station he was insulted by taking his bag, mobile and made him to sit as if he was a murderer.

But the Balapur police condemned the allegations and said, during course of investigation for identification of an accused and as per the identification marks given by the complainant named Mohammed Adnan, Srinivas was called to station and been shown to the complainant.

He observed and stated that he is not that one who beat him. Later, Srinivas was freed with thanking him for co-operating with police in investigation. But he started blackmailing the police that arrest was to divert the issue.
