  • Party has called its cadre to organise protests outside offices of the power utilities in districts across the State

Hyderabad: BJP Telangana State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar demanded the State government to immediately scrap the excessive power bills handed over to the consumers.

Speaking at a meeting held here on Thursday, he said that the party will organise protests before the Vidyut Soudha in the city and offices of the power utilities in the districts across the State on June 15.

He said that the staff of power utilities could not go door to door to take meter readings during the lockdown. However, the State government should have ensured people are not troubled even after taking the meter readings after three months.

But, power utilities are handing over bloated power bills to the people and profiteering with the change of slab rates. On the other hand, the State government is trying to justify the racketeering going in the name of the collection of power bills," he added.

Against this backdrop, BJP has decided to fight against the injustice inflicted upon people during the time of crisis. "We condemn the attitude of the State government and the power utilities and are organising a protest against the same to scrap excess charges,"he said.

Earlier, a BJP delegation had submitted a representation to the Transco CMD Raghuma Reddy on the issue, following several people bringing the bloated power bills to the notice of party leaders and how they were being asked to cough up thousands of rupees in the name of power bills, he said.
