Three children meet watery grave in Nagarkurnool
Mahbubnagar: Three children below 12 years were drowned in a pond in Nandi Vaddeman village of Bijinepally mandal in Nagarkurnool district on Thursday. According to sources, Anil Kumar (11), Bandala Swathi (10), Bokki Sailaja (12) and Ganesh (9) had gone to Suraiah Kunta pond for swimming on Thursday.
However, while playing in the shallow waters, three of the children, Anil Kumar, Swathi and Sailaja suddenly slipped into a deep trench and drowned. Ganesh (9) too died while trying to save them. Upon hearing the cries, passers-by ran to rescue the children. However, it was all over by the time they reached. Except Ganesh, remaining three had already lost their lives. Ganesh was rescued and was sent to Nagarkurnool hospital where his condition is said to be critical.
Among the dead children, Anil Kumar and Swathi were Class 5 students in government school. Another deceased, Sailaja, is the fourth child of Chennamma and Nagaiah couple and the little girl was studying Class 7 in the primary school in their village.
Bijinepally SI visited the spot and conducted preliminary inquiry and registered a case. Further investigation is underway.
