Hyderabad: The ruling TRS wrested Huzurnagar assembly constituency from the Congress by a staggering 43,000 votes in the byelections held on October 21.

TRS candidate S Saidi Reddy has defeated his nearest rival Congress candidate N Padmavathi Reddy, who is the wife of TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, in the bypoll. The BJP and TDP candidates forfeited their deposits in the elections.

The bypoll result has come as a major setback for the Congress and a moral booster to the ruling party which has been facing rough weather ever since the RTC workers have gone on strike. The TRS candidate Saidi Reddy broke the earlier 29,000 record majority secured by Uttam in 2014 elections.

The Congress leader won the seat for three consecutive term. The assembly seat fell vacant after the TPCC chief was elected as MP in the Lok Sabha elections.

TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao said that the bypoll outcome was a befitting lesson to the opposition parties and a slap on the face of the anti-Telangana forces.

The Congress leaders said that the ruling party had exploited the official machinery and lured the voters to win the elections.
