Hyderabad: Prohibition & Excise Minister V. Srinivas Goud on Monday informed that the Legislative Assembly that the State Government was taking all measures to make Telangana a State free from Gudumba.

Replying to a question raised by MLAs Anjaiah Yelganamoni, Kranthi Kiran Chanti, Kalvakuntla Vidyasagar Rao and Peddi Sudarshan Reddy, the minister said that the department has taken up the initiative of educating people on ill effects of consumption of gudumba. Awareness programmes were conducted with the help of local bodies, self help groups by organizing rallies, public meetings and involving Kalajatharas at village level in coordination with excise, police and revenue departments and public representatives under guidelines of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao. Village wise offenders of manufacturers, sellers and transporters were identified and were bond over the offenders under Section 109/110 Cr.Pc for keeping good behavior. Measures were taken to detain the hardcore offenders under PD Act. The drive is still going on and regular checks/surprise raids are being conducted in ID prone areas, he said.

The minister said that as many as 6,323 AreKatika families across Telangana State were identified and financial assistance was sanctioned for them. As on date, a total of 6,299 Gudumba affected families have been Rehabilitated in the state under a special scheme with as asset of Rs. 2 lakhs per beneficiary without any bank linkage by various welfare departments like BC, SC,ST, Minority welfare departments.
