Narsampet (Warangal Rural): The students in large numbers staged a protest in front of Balaji Institute of Technology and Sciences (BITS) here on Friday, demanding justice to a second-year student Ramya, who was severely injured when a pack of stray dogs attacked her on Thursday night on college campus. It's learnt that the dogs, which attacked the girl, are reared by the college management. Normally, the dogs remain chained during the day and let off in the night to guard the campus.

On Thursday night, the students, who stay in the college hostel, were decorating the college for the freshers' day and Bathukamma celebration. Unaware of students' movement on the campus, the caretaker of the dogs let them off at around 11 pm. The dogs attacked the students, when they were going to their hostel rooms. A group of dogs attacked Ramya and severely injured her before other students drove the dogs by threatening them with sticks. Ramya lost a lot of blood and was taken to a private hospital in Narsampet and later to a corporate hospital in Hyderabad for better treatment.

Students demanded action against the warden, who did not inform the caretakers of the dogs about the presence of students on the ground. They demanded the management to bear the medical expenses of the student besides giving ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh.
