Amaravati: Free housing scheme to benefit 1.5 crores
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday launched the flagship programme of Navaratnalu - distribution of house sites to poor women under 'JYSR Jagananna Illa Pattalu' programme at Komaragiri of the Pithapuram Assembly constituency in East Godavari district
Amaravati: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday launched the flagship programme of Navaratnalu - distribution of house sites to poor women under 'JYSR Jagananna Illa Pattalu' programme at Komaragiri of the Pithapuram Assembly constituency in East Godavari district.
Inaugurating the 15-day housing festival, the Chief Minister said that the state government would distribute 30.76 lakh house site pattas to all eligible women setting aside their caste and party affiliations.
He said the state government would approach the Supreme Court to get clearance for distribution of house sites in some places as the Opposition party leaders filed petitions to obstruct the distribution of pattas. "As a result the distribution of house sites was postponed several times," he said.
The Chief Minister said the groundbreaking ceremony is organised for construction of houses in 15.6 lakh house sites in the first phase. The sale agreements will be distributed to women beneficiaries for 2.63 lakh TIDCO houses.
"The state government has been spending Rs 6,800 crore to develop YSR Jagananna colonies coming up in 17,005 layouts across the state. The government will take up construction of 28.3 lakh houses at a total cost of Rs 50,940 crore.
The government acquired 68,361 acres of land worth Rs 23,535 crore for distribution of house sites," he said.
The Chief Minister said that the government would provide three options for the beneficiaries, including supply of material and labour charges for construction of houses, releasing funds in a phased manner if people come forward to construct on their own and in the third option to construct the house by the government itself.
He said the previous government was only making attempts to construct houses for the poor in the last two years of its term, where as the present government has taken up the distribution of house sites to 30.76 lakh families to provide shelter to more than one-and-a-half crore in one-and-a-half year's rule against the promise of constructing 25 lakh houses in YSR manifesto.
