Vijayawada: An awareness walk was organised by Maxi Vision Super Specialty Eye Hospital from its Vijayawada branch at DV Manor to Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium to mark 'World Sight Day' on Thursday.

Speaking on the awareness walk, Dr Ramkrishna said that to mark 'World Sight Day' they unveiled 'Vision First' initiative to create mass awareness on importance of eyes to all.

Maxi Vision took up this initiative as part of its social responsibility to create awareness. World Sight Day is observed to create global attention on blindness, vision impairment, universal eye health, right to sight and fighting vision problems at old age, he said.

He said that as part of the programme, a week-long free eye checkups / screenings will be done for poor senior citizens. He said timely treatment can avoid blindness to a larger extent. Vision problems are more prevalent in elderly people and they are more likely to get vision defects as the age grows.

Dr Jayasudha, Dr Madhavi Latha, YL Rao, T Koteswara Rao, Bhima, Maxi Vision team along with Karuna Sree Eye Bank chairman Dara Karuna Sree participated in the walk.
