Visakhapatnam: Nagula Chavithi festival was celebrated in Visakhapatnam with religious fervour on Thursday. Scores of devotees headed to various neighbourhoods in search of snake-pits only to get disappointed.

While a few offered prayers at the snake-pit near railway track, some performed the rituals near deities of Lord Nagendra in temples. Pouring sachets of milk, offering fruits, traditional dishes and eggs to Lord Nagendra, the devout were seen performing rituals on the occasion.

Women offered homemade sweets to appease Lord Nagendra along with other items. The recent rains that lashed the district and growth of concrete jungle attribute to the dwindling numbers of snake-pits across the city.
