District Judge asks prisoners to hone work skills in Nellore
Principal District and Sessions Judge G Venkata Krishnaiah said that they would meet prisoners from October 21 for understanding their family conditions and take measures for supporting their families.
Nellore: Principal District and Sessions Judge G Venkata Krishnaiah said that they would meet prisoners from October 21 for understanding their family conditions and take measures for supporting their families.
Addressing at the Central Jail on Wednesday as part of Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, he said the prisoners have committed offences during unfortunate situations and they need to develop skills for their livelihood after release from jail. He called upon the prisoners to avail skill development programmes provided by jail authorities.
He said the life of Mahatma was an example for honesty and non-violence, who followed them till end of his life without compromise and added Gandhiji organised protests questioning inequality in South Africa and fought against British in India for emancipation of the country.
Joint Collector Dr Vinod Kumar Vasudev said that the movie directed by Richard Attenborough had inspired him while preparing for Civils and became fan of Mahatma. Hence, he preferred to serve as sub-collector in Rampachodavaram and Project Officer in ITDA, Parvathipuram for the wellbeing of tribal population heartily.
He assured that as the Chairman of the Purchases Committee he would prefer to buy chairs and tables from the workshop of prison for supporting their activity.
Secretary of District Legal Services Authority PJ Sudha said that they had set up Jail Clinic for providing services to prisoners through 20 advocates. Four prisoners have been appointed as para-volunteers for providing their services, she said. Additional SP B Lakshminarayana said that prisoners have to take Gandhi as their role model for changing their behaviour.
District and Sessions Judge Venkata Krishnaiah and Joint Collector handed over prizes from Dr B R Ambedkar Open University to the prisoner, who achieved good percentage of marks in graduation completed between 2015-18. They also distributed prizes to the winners of sports and games conducted in the prison.
Additional Magistrates Leela Syamsundar, SV Kavitha and in-charge jail superintendent Rajeswara Rao were present.
