President of India Ramnath Kovind on Thursday has approved the appointment of Justice Arup Goswami as the new Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The Central Judiciary on Thursday released a gazette in this regard. Similarly, the Joint Secretary of the Union Judiciary has issued a notification on the transfer of Andhra Pradesh Chief Justice JK Maheshwari. The decision was taken by the President after discussions with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Details of the notification issued to the AP High Court and Sikkim High Court officials are included here. Justice Maheshwari was directed to take over as the Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court.

Justice Arup Goswami was born on March 11, 1961 in Jorhat, Assam. He graduated in law from Guwahati Government Law College in 1985. On August 16, 1985, he registered as a lawyer. He argued different cases related to civil, criminal, constitutional and employment services. He was appointed Additional Judge of the Guwahati High Court in 2011 and Permanent Judge in 2012. On 15 October 2019, he was promoted to the post of Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court.

Earlier, he was promoted to Senior Advocate from the Guwahati High Court on December 21, 2004. From 2011 to 2013 he served as the Executive Chairman of the Nagaland State Legal Service. He has twice served as the interim Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court since 2018.
