Kakinada: Installation of GPS is mandatory for sand transporting lorries, stated District Collector D Muralidhar Reddy while conducting a review meet with Lorry Owners and Drivers' Association representatives at the Collectorate on Friday.

The Collector said only 68 lorries and vehicles have been installed GPS and the remaining should be installed before on November 24. He said those lorries which installed GPS will be allowed for sand transport. Stating that the Sand Week celebrations started from November 14 to 21, he said those lorries registered with APMDC could transport sand.

He said sand bookings are being made online from November 24 and people can book at Mandal Revenue Officer and Sub Collector's office in Rajamahendravaram. Boats going from ramp to stock point were also required to be registered. Joint Collector G Lakshmisha and ITDA PO Nishanth Kumar were present.
