Guntur: District collector I Samuel Anand Kumar directed the officials to ready proposals to desilt drains, irrigation canals and to remove weed from the drains and irrigation canals.
He conducted a meeting with the officials of irrigation in the collectorate on Tuesday. The officials explained drainages associated with Kommamuru canal, Krishna west canal, Nizampatnam canal through the power point presentation.
He asked the officials to take steps for the smooth flow of rainwater from the agriculture fields to drains to avoid stagnation of rainwater. He said that major, minor and medium drains and canal between agriculture fields should be covered for the clearance.
He instructed the officials to submit proposals before February next year to take up repairs to canals for 2020-21 kharif. He instructed them to prepare estimates with the help of technical assistants working in the MNREGS and AEs working in the irrigation department. He ordered the officials to submit a report on modernisation of Krishna Canal and drainages.
Irrigation superintendent engineer Babu Rao, DWAMA Project Director Srinivasa Reddy, irrigation department officials were present.
