BC Welfare Minister Ch Venugopalakrishna, Kakinada MP Vanga Geetha, MLC P Ravindra Babu and District Collector D Muraidhar Reddy have participated in the programme. On the occasion of the World Fisheries Day, Chief Minister Jagan has congratulated the State fishermen and aqua farmers.

The Chief Minister said that a fishing harbor would be established at a cost of Rs 422 crore on Uppada beach. The Chief Minister said that before December 15 the process relating to tenders would be completed and works would commence immediately.

He pointed out that the subsidy on diesel has been enhanced from Rs 6 to Rs 9 in order to reduce the financial burden on fishermen. He also stated that with an amount of Rs 55 crore the government has established the aqualabs in the State.

BC Welfare Minister Venugopalakrishna said that the fishermen, who had been neglected by the previous governments, were being extended support by the YSRCP government through various welfare schemes and facilities.

He said the fishermen would no longer have to travel to Gujarat and West Bengal for their livelihood, adding that fish products would be marketed from the village level through Janata Bazaars and the revenue from the fisheries and aquaculture sector would increase significantly.

MP Vanga Geeta said the Aminabad Fishing Harbor would bring a new dimension in the lives of 3,000 fishermen in the district.
