The Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which had announced that it would permit only 6,000 people per day to have a darshan of Lord Balaji in view of corona pandemic, seems to be relaxing the rules even as the number of cases and red zones in Tirupati are rapidly increasing.

Tirupati: The Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which had announced that it would permit only 6,000 people per day to have a darshan of Lord Balaji in view of corona pandemic, seems to be relaxing the rules even as the number of cases and red zones in Tirupati are rapidly increasing.

Initially, only Rs 300 special entry tickets were put online and the number was limited. But now, the TTD seems to be focusing more on revenue generation rather than ensuring safety of the pilgrims. On Wednesday, the TTD released Srivani Trust (Sri Venkateswara Alayala Nirmanam Trust) darshan tickets against donation of Rs 10,000 per person plus the cost of ticket which would be around Rs 500. Under this quota, 100 tickets will be sold to those recommended by the TTD trust members across the counter from Monday and online up to June 30.

The TTD first allowed 6,000 people for darshan under two categories, including Sarvadarshan and Rs 300 special entry tickets. But from June 19 onwards, Rs 300 tickets alone were increased to 6,000 per day. As a result, the number of pilgrims went up to 10,000 per day.

Reliable sources said that the TTD also began issuing VIP break darshan and Suprabhatham (Rs 300 special entry) tickets on the recommendation of the TTD trust board members resulting in an increase in the number of privileged darshan tickets being issued daily. All this has resulted in stretching the darshan timings up to 8 pm.

Meanwhile, the Hundi income on Tuesday touched Rs 57 lakh which is highest so far.
