Dravidian University, Kuppam celebrated the National Handloom Day on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, Registrar Prof AK Venugopal Reddy underlined the importance of wearing handloom clothes and the government was also implementing schemes to provide financial assistance to the weavers.

He felt the need to encourage those wearing handloom clothes at least once a week.
University Examinations Dean Prof Aravind Kumar said that now about 68 lakh people were getting livelihood through handloom industry in the country. Still the handloom weavers could not grow financially and were disappointed. Everyone should buy handloom clothes and products. Academic affairs dean Prof V Lokanatham, nodal officer Dr D Mabuni, teaching and non-teaching staff and students took part.
