Out of the `720 crore allocated by the government,400 crore will be spent to develop Kurnool GGH and the other `320 crore will be used for modernisation of Kurnool Medical College (KMC), says Dr P Chandrasekhar, Principal of KMC

Kurnool: The state government has allocated Rs.720 crore for modernisation of Kurnool Government General Hospital, one of the oldest teaching hospitals in the state. The amount has been sanctioned under Naadu-Nedu programme.

``To speed up the works the officials concerned have also prepared designs and plans for new constructions. The proposals along with designs have been sent to the government for getting approvals and the civil works are like to start from the month of August, 2020,'' said Dr P Chandrasekhar, Principal of Medical College on Wednesday.

On an average the Kurnool GGH draws nearly 3,000 outpatients on daily basis. These patients come from Prakasam, Bellary in Karnataka, Mahaboobnagar in Telangana besides those from Rayalaseema districts. Regrettably, the 36 unit hospital has only 300 doctors to cater services to 1,150 bed strength. Several buildings are in dilapidated state and repairs have to be done to some other buildings. There is dire need to construct new buildings with modern technology, said Chandrasekhar.

Already a state level cancer institute being constructed in collaboration with Tata foundation is coming in the premises of Kurnool Medical College. Once the constructions works are completed then the facilities of Kurnool GGH would become the largest health care center in the state, added the Medical College Principal.

Addressing media persons, Dr P Chandrasekhar said the new buildings would be built on the lines of corporate hospitals. Patients would have better facilities. He further said out of the Rs.720 crores allocated by the government, Rs. 400 crore would be spent to develop Kurnool GGH and the other Rs.320 crore will be used for modernisation of Kurnool Medical College (KMC). Even doctors' quarters will also be constructed in the premises of the hospital, said the Medical College Principal.
