Nellore : Due to rapid increase in Covid-19 positive cases, lockdown has been imposed in Kavali town in Nellore district on Sunday. Six cases were registered on Saturday in the town and the revenue officials decided to impose lockdown immediately for containing the further spread of the cases.

Now, shops in the town are being opened only between 6 am and 9 am. In-charge RDO M Das announced that the lockdown would continue in the town till the situation normalises.

Sullurpet has been facing alarming situation with continuous positive cases. People are still facing a lockdown-like situation. Koyambedu Market in Chennai influenced the region a couple of months ago.

Patur village, which is popular for handmade attire and cotton sarees in Kovur Mandal registered 11 positive cases on Saturday giving shock to local population. A woman trader who was infected with the virus neglected treatment and consequently 7 cases reported in a single-family.

An employee in the Collectorate and an employee in Vikrama Simhapuri University were found to be infected with Covid-19. Till now 10 deaths reported in the district. More than 225 members are in isolation wards availing treatment. Nellore town is also registering a huge number of cases regularly.

Further, the Joint Collector announced that hereafter there would be no quarantine or isolation wards in the district. He said patients would be treated at their homes through self-quarantining and Covid care centres would provide treatment only in case of emergency.

He stated that pulse oximeters will be supplied to the patients confined to the households and they have to check their oxygen levels on a daily basis.
