Nellore: MP Adala Prabhakar Reddy on Monday urged Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to consider sanctioning the outer ring road for Nellore city and a four-lane road from Mypadu to Kodur.

He handed over a representation to the Chief Minister at Police parade grounds in this regard on Monday. The Chief Minister responded positively for the appeal, according to him.

It may be recalled that the Outer Ring Road was proposed some time ago to ease traffic congestion on major roads in the city. As Nellore is fast emerging as a tier-2 city with more than 6 lakh population with industries, economic zones, thermal plants and many other manufacturing units, the ORR was badly needed to ease traffic congestion in and around the city limits.

Two decades back, there was not much population but increased hugely with the bypass road connecting Atmakur bus stand and Ayyappa temple in Vedayapalem area.

The main road of the city from Atmakur bus stand to the highway via RTC bus complex and Ayyappagudi Junction, which is about 12 km always busy with vehicular movement connecting different parts of the city. Mini bypass road which is parallel to the GNT road in the city connects Eastern and Western parts of the city.

Commuters started using the road due to heavy rush on the GNT road in the morning and in the evening hours. To relieve the traffic congestion on the major roads of the city, Outer Ring Road was proposed many years back, but it failed to materialise due to lack of political will.
