Vijayawada: VMC Additional Commissioner K Shakunthala appealed to the people to say no to the single use plastic carry bags with a slogan 'Carry a Bag - Not a Plastic Carry Bag' at a programme organised by MJ Naidu Charitable Trust at Patamata here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Additional Commissioner said that use of plastic carry bags would give room for the outbreak of dreaded diseases like cancer. These plastic bags are harmful to the environment and other living beings on the planet, she added.

The carry bags obstruct the rain water from sinking into the Earth. They create blockage in the side canals leading to overflowing and creating breading grounds for mosquitoes, she said.

She said that everyone should feel the responsibility to stop using plastic carry bags and use cloth or jute bags or steel boxes and save the environment. The members of MJ Naidu doctors team and VMC officials participated in the programme.
