Govt beefs up security, installs 4,700 CCTV cams at 2,000 temples

Rajamahendravaram: In the wake of serious of attacks on temples across the State, the Police department putting its endeavour to strengthen security at all temples in the district and officials of Endowments department also verifying security arrangements at the temples.

At present, there are 9,220 prayer halls of various religions and only 900 closed circuit cameras in 300 prayer halls. In the wake of attacks on temples, with the initiative of policedepartment, 4,700 closedcircuit cameras were installed in 2,000 temples after September.The police were facing problems to nab the miscreants due to lack of closed-circuit cameras.

Meanwhile, Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy temple, Annavaram executive officer VendraTrinadh Rao beefed up the securityarrangements with police and temple security wing. It was decided to increase closed circuit cameras to 220 from the existing 120 cameras on the sacred shrine.

Some cases relating to theft and vandalisation of idols in some temples are still under investigation. Meanwhile, the chariot burning incident of Narasimha Swamy temple at Antarvedi was handed over to CBI.
