Rajamahendravaram: The Janata Curfew call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi received tremendous success in the city on Sunday and lakhs of people participated voluntarily in war against prevention of coronavirus spread.

From 7 am onwards, the people confined to their houses and the city wore a deserted look. The busy main road, Mahatma Gandhi cloth market and gold market lost their sheen following their closure.

As many as 850 RTC buses in the district were confined to their depots and the busy central bus station, Kotipalli bus station and Gokavaram bus station also closed due to halt of transportation services.

Moreover, the airport, which is busy with 1,400 passengers daily, was also shut due to cancellation of flight operations.

When contacted, a retired engineer M S Rama Rao said that he is feeling happy to participate in Janata Curfew to combat coronavirus, which is the need of the hour. It is the duty of everyone to extend their cooperation to the government in the fight against the deadly virus.

A housewife K Rajya Lakshmi said the Janata curfew concept is unique and need of the hour to reduce the impact of coronavirus. In case of calamities like virus, all the people should come together to extend their cooperation to the government. In future also we are ready to display the same spirit whenever the government gives call.

Two students A Babji and M Ramya said postponement of examinations is not a problem and they can write again but the health of people is very important. We are happy to participate in Janata Curfew for the sake of the people, they added.


No devotee visited Pushkar Ghat due to Janata Curfew in Rajamahendravaram on Sunday

In addition to this, the people faced problems to get milk as in many areas the milk vans not delivered milk and daily newspapers exhausted in the wee hours. Mutton, chicken, vegetable markets and Rythu Bazaars were closed.

The vegetables in Rythu Bazaars and other markets exhausted by 7 pm on Saturday and a kg chicken sold out for Rs 350-Rs 400 due to Janata Curfew on Sunday. The temples also lost their sheen as all sevas performed in ekantham without allowing darshan for devotees. Some people ran here and there for tiffins in the morning but in vain as the hotels were also shut.
