K Divya, MSc Botany scholar of Andhra University has successfully completed her research on Alchornea Mollis plant and proved that Methanol extract of leaf, bark and root have maximum secondary metabolites when compared to the other extracts.

Visakhapatnam: K Divya, MSc Botany scholar of Andhra University has successfully completed her research on Alchornea Mollis plant and proved that Methanol extract of leaf, bark and root have maximum secondary metabolites when compared to the other extracts. This was the first of its kind report on phytochemical analysis of A. mollis leaf, bark and root in different solvent extracts.

With these successful results, medicines to be manufactured for various skin diseases and also cancers in the near future. The Andhra University has declared PhD to Divya on Tuesday.

Divya carried out her research on the Alchornea mollis, which is African plant, its antibacterial, antifungal and anti protozoan properties, as well as its anti-inflammatory activities.

She found the plant in Hukumpeta in the Visakhapatnam agency area. The plant is also found in East Godavari district, Himalayas, Sikkim and Assom.

A Mollis leaf, bark and root of different extracts were reported to have high antifungal activity. Therefore, an effective anti microbial studies may be conducted

All the three plant parts were found to be rich sources of bioactive phytoconstituents which were not completely explored
