Several places in Chittoor district receive widespread rains
Wide spread rains reported in Chittoor district on Sunday cheering the farmers who have taken up ground nut crop in an area of about 1.35 lakh hectare in the kharif season.

Many mandals in the district are witnessing incessant rains since Saturday which intensified and spread to more areas. The pilgrim city which experienced intermittent rains on Saturday witnessed heavy rains since morning to evening. Corporation authorities have taken precautionary measures including cleaning and desilting of drains avoiding overflowing .
The heavy rains on Tirumala hills saw the two waterfalls Kapilatheertham and Malavanigunta coming to life and start flowing. As a precautionary measure, corporation authorities alerted the residents near the banks of the two streams.
Hill top temple town recorded 48 mm rain fall till evening, according to official source. However in Renigunta town a major railway junction 10 km from here, the heavy rains resulted in the inundation of many localities including Panchali Nagar, Bismilla Nagar and other areas.
According official sources, the total rain fall (cumulative) received in the district was 1165 mm (recorded at 8 a.m. Sunday) registering an average rainfall of 17.7 mm. Karvetingaram recorded highest rainfall of 158 mm followed by Puttur 76, Narayanavanam 64 mm and Vedurukuppam 50 mm. With the rains to continue for few more days, the district likely to reach normal rain fall in August which is 117.4 mm.
