Vijayawada: Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan said badminton star P V Sindhu is not only the pride of Telugu states but also the pride of entire nation. The Governor felicitated Sindhu on her stupendous achievement of winning a gold medal at the world badminton championship-2019 held at Basel, Switzerland.

Addressing a function held at the Raj Bhavan Durbar Hall here on Friday, the Governor said he was anxiously waiting to meet Sindhu, the beloved daughter of Telugu people, after she won the championship and it was a privilege to felicitate her.

He said Sindhu had displayed exceptional skills during the final match and won the championship over the opponent and the whole country was watching the match with great interest The Governor also congratulated Sindhu's parents and Pullela Gopichand, national badminton coach.

He said the encouragement and support given by her coach and her parents had helped Sindhu in winning the championship. He wished that Sindhu should win many more such championships in the future. The Governor presented a shawl and memento to the badminton star.

Sindhu expressed her happiness on being felicitated by the Governor and said she felt very happy coming to AP Raj Bhavan. It was a great honour for her to receive felicitation from the Governor and blessings from people. She said that she would continue to work more hard and win many more laurels for the country.

Minister for Tourism, Sports and Culture Muthamsetti Srinivasa Rao, Principal Secretary (Sports and Youth Welfare) Praveen Kumar, AP Sports Authority MD Katamneni Bhaskar, Secretary to Governor Mukesh Kumar Meena and Joint Secretary Arjuna Rao were present on the occasion.
