Tirupati: About 50 students of Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) divided into five groups and tookpart in house hold survey programme on Saturday as part of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), a flagship programme of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

Each group was led by one NSS coordinator and these groups have covered five villages adopted by SPMVV for the purpose. The Ministry designated IIT Delhi to act as the National Coordinating Institute for the UBA.

The programme was primarily intended to enrich Rural India where 70 percent of the population lives. UBA was aimed at identifying various problems in rural India and to know whether various government schemes are reaching them properly.

There are several Regional Coordinating Institutes which coordinate with IIT Delhi and SV Veterinary University is one such Institute while SPMVV is a participating institute. As a part of the programme, the students of the University have gone to five villages – Mallaiah Palli, Dornakambala, Gangudu Palli, Pata Sanambatla and Adapareddy Palli of Chandragiri mandal.

They collect information through the questionnaires they get from New Delhi by covering 50 houses in each village. Speaking to The Hans India, the Director of Centre for University Community Engagement Prof K Madhu Jyothi said that by analysing the survey reports they will try to resolve the problems and upload all the details in the UBA portal.

The government after studying the reports, may release grants in phased manner to the participating institutes to address the problems in their respective adopted villages. NSS Coordinator Prof J Katyayani, Deans Prof Bharathi and Prof Jyothi gave directions to the students.
