State Election Commissioner (SEC) Nimmagada Ramesh Kumar issued an order here on Friday stating that the Model Code of Conduct for local body elections would be ceased to be in force in the entire state with immediate effect

Vijayawada: State Election Commissioner (SEC) Nimmagada Ramesh Kumar issued an order here on Friday stating that the Model Code of Conduct for local body elections would be ceased to be in force in the entire state with immediate effect subject to the conditions specified therein in pursuance of the judgment issued by the Supreme Court.

He further said that in the interest of the candidates and the common public and to curtail spread of Covid-19, it is ordered that no campaigning should take place in any local body by any political party or any contesting candidate or validly nominated candidate in the elections to the MPTC and ZPTC and urban local bodies from now onwards till the election is notified by the SEC to continue the paused election process complying with the directions of the Supreme Court.
