Vijayawada: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which has made FASTag mandatory for all vehicles passing via toll gates from December 1, will provide another facility to the vehicle users. They can pay monthly toll gate charges along with FASTag wallet facility as the bank account number of the customer/vehicle user will be linked to NHAI and the banks. With FASTag vehicle users can pay toll charges without stopping the vehicle at the toll gate as automatic deduction will be made with the FASTag pasted to windshield of the vehicle.

So far, the vehicle users mostly cars, light motor vehicles and transport vehicles take monthly toll passes for the payment of charges. Henceforth, they need not visit the toll gate offices on the highways to take these passes. They can pay online with the help of FASTag wallet facility, which links the bank account number of the customer to the NHAI.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Lorry Owners Association general secretary Y Eswara Rao said the association requested the NHAI project director to extend the deadline for registration of FASTag by one month. He said the association has been trying to create awareness among the truck owners and drivers on the FASTag.

Eswara Rao said disputes may arise near the toll gates because many drivers don't know about the double toll charges to be collected from December 1 if they don't register their number with FASTag.

NHAI project director M Vidya Sagar told The Hans India that there was no scope for extension of the deadline for registration FASTag. He said the decision had been taken at the national level and the Union government has to take any further decision on it.
