Visakhapatnam Port Trust bags Greentech Environment Award
Visakhapatnam Port Trust has bagged the 19th annual Greentech Environment Award – 2019 for its continued efforts towards minimising air pollution and developing greenery in and around port area.

End-to-end mechanisation of coal and iron ore cargo handling through PPP mode at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore, development of green belt at stack yards, massive plantation drive and mechanical dust suppression system were among the eco-friendly steps taken by the VPT.
This apart, the VPT is using treated water for industrial purpose and thereby conserving 80 per cent of fresh water. Installation of mechanical truck tyre cleaning facility at a cost of Rs 85 lakh, purchase of two fog canons, use of mechanical sweeping machine, installation of 10 MW solar plant at a cost of Rs 60 crore form a part of the environment-friendly initiatives taken by the VPT.
VPT was adjudged as the second cleanest port among major ports on sanitation parameters in the country and bagged Swachh Survekshan award for three consecutive years.VPT will receive the 19th Annual Greentech Environment Award (gold) 2019 to be presented on July 11 in New Delhi.
Deputy Chairman P.L. Haranadh of Visakhapatnam Port Trust expressed happiness for its latest achievement and commended the team for their strenuous efforts.
